One of NZ's best half-day (three to four hours) cycle rides, this gently graded route passes engineering features including the historic Hapuawhenua and Toanui viaducts – the only two remaining curved viaducts in the southern hemisphere. It also passes through ancient forests of giant rimu and totara that survived the Taupo blast of AD 180, being in the lee of Ruapehu. From the Ohakune railway station, ride down Old Coach Rd, turn right into Marshalls Rd and join the track.
