Our Three day Bottom Bus tour is one of the best ways to see the Bottom of the South Island. In a minimum of three days you can experience the adrenaline in Queenstown, take in the breathtaking scenery with a cruise on the majestic Milford Sound in the Fiordland National Park, explore the Catlins wildlife and wonders and bathe in the heritage of Dunedin. Want to spend extra nights at one of our stops? No problem you can hop off for a night or two and get on our next bus coming through. Want to catch a ferry over to Stewart Island (extra cost) and try your luck at spotting a Kiwi bird? Sweet as! We will drop you off in Bluff to catch the first ferry of the day. You can then spend a night, or even more, on Stewart Island and catch the first ferry from Stewart Island back to Bluff where we will be waiting for you to carry on through The Catlins to Dunedin.
DAY 1: Queenstown to Dunedin
Head to Lawrence the gold-rush birthplace, Clyde and it’s hydro-electric dam following the mighty Kawarau River and west past the Milton Hilton (really a prison).
Arrive into NZ’s most vibrant student town – Dunedin - Visit Baldwin Street (world’s steepest street), for a quick sprint to the top, experience a City tour with an explanation of the sights of Dunedin (Railway station Photo stop and University)
Optional activities that afternoon include: * Speights Brewery Heritage Tour
DAY 2: Dunedin to Queenstown via the Catlins
Sightseeing day through the spectacular Catlin’s Coast.
Journey into Rakiura National Park you may spot some of NZ’s rare and native birds (including the evasive Kiwi), or just chill out in a very peaceful laid back place. Also the best Blue Cod and Chips we’ve ever had.
Then we get to the bottom (or pretty close to it) at Curio Bay. A gem of a place, a place of rare things, like NZ’s native Hectors Dolphin, Yellow Eyed Penguins and a 180 million-year-old fossilised forest. We then head towards the Catlins Coastal Rainforest, taking in some wicked beach views, bush walks and waterfalls including Surat Bay or Cannibal Bay, both home to NZ Sea Lions, with a walk on the beach to see them (like being on Discovery Channel!). Enjoy a scenic stop for the day is Nugget Point, home of seabirds, fur seals and stunning coastal vistas.
Next head off in the direction of Antarctica stopping in Bluff with a chance to snatch a photo under “that” signpost and optional ferry connections to Stewart Island.
DAY 3: Invercargill to Queenstown with Milford Sound
Last day of the journey takes you from Invercargill to Mossburn where we connect with Kiwi Experience who take you in to Milford Sounds. Photo stops are taken in the best spots. On arrival into Milford Sound, you board a Jucy Cruise for a tour of the fiord with full commentary provided. After the cruise, it’s on the bus for the trip back to Te Anau for the final leg of the day to Queenstown
Our full Bottom Bus loop plus Milford Sound plus Stewart Island for a night or more. The ultimate Bottom of the South Island experience! Minimum of 5 days.
