Aircraft from the 1930s and '40s are lovingly restored and showcased within Croydon Aviation's hangar, 16km northwest of Gore on SH94 (towards Queenstown). But that's just a taster of life in the air: you can also book a flight in a two-seater 1930s Tiger Moth biplane or other wee aircraft (from $150 for 15 minutes). A restored steam railway runs once a month on open days (adult/child $5/2.50).

There's a stylish cafe and gift store attached to the aviation centre.
