Auckland is the main international gateway to NZ, and a hub for domestic flights. Auckland Airport is 21km south of the city centre. It has separate international and domestic terminals, a 10-minute walk apart from each other via a signposted footpath; a free shuttle service operates every 15 minutes (5am to 10.30pm). Both terminals have left-luggage facilities, eateries, ATMs and car-rental desks.
Taxis usually costs $80 to $90 to the city, more if you strike traffic.
SkyBus runs bright-red buses between the terminals and the city, every 10 to 15 minutes from 5.15am to 7pm and at least half-hourly through the night. Stops include Mt Eden Rd or Dominion Rd, Symonds St, Queen St and Britomart. Reservations are not required; buy a ticket from the driver, the airport kiosk or online. Small discount if you book online.
Super Shuttle is a convenient door-to-door shuttle charging $35 for one person heading between the airport and a city hotel; the price increases for outlying suburbs. Save money by sharing a shuttle. A lengthier alternative is to catch the 380 bus to Onehunga ($3.50, 30 minutes, at least hourly 7am to 7.30pm), where you can catch a train to Britomart in the city centre ($5.50, 27 minutes, half-hourly 6am to 10pm).
Go Kiwi offers daily Auckland City–Auckland Airport–Thames–Tairua–Hot Water Beach–Whitianga shuttles.
