The information centre stocks a Cycling & Walking Trail brochure ($1) outlining some excellent tracks in the area. One particularly good cycling route is the Arrow River Bridges Ride (12km) from Arrowtown to the Kawarau Bridge, which traverses various purpose-built suspension bridges and a tunnel cut under the highway. If you have more time and energy, you can connect onto the Gibbston River Trail at the Kawarau Bridge to cycle past a string of cellar doors.

Local walks range from hour-long strolls along Bush Creek and the Arrow River to a climb along the Big Hill Trail (12km, five to six hours) that meets the Arrow River closer to Macetown.

Arrowtown has a range of accommodation and provides a less frenetic alternative to Queenstown. During summer, rooms still fill up fast.

Arrowtown has some excellent eateries – far better than you'd expect for such a small town. Booking is recommended for evening dining.

Drinking & Nightlife

You'll find a couple of pubs along Buckingham St. To kick on into the evening, seek out the little blue door into Blue Door, or delve into the cocktail list at La Rumbla.
