Women Travelers

Few women travelers will encounter any problems in Nepal. However, women should still be cautious. Clothes that cover the shoulders and thighs are culturally appropriate here, but take your cue from the locals in this area to gauge what’s widely accepted. Several women have written to say that a long skirt is very useful for impromptu toilet trips, especially when trekking.

Sexual harassment is rare but does exist. Trekking guides have been known to take advantage of their position of trust and responsibility and some solo women trekkers who hire a guide have had to put up with repeated sexual harassment. The best advice is to never trek alone with a local male guide. 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking in Pokhara is run by women and specializes in providing female staff for treks.
