Tibetophiles and tour groups heading to or from Tibet like the Tibetan vibe of this recommended place. The 54 quiet and comfortable rooms are plain compared to the opulent Tibetan-style lobby, but several of the larger front-facing rooms have a balcony. There’s also a great rooftop terrace bar-restaurant and a side garden cafe.
The hotel is building the huge 17-storey top-end Lhasa International Hotel next door so you can expect front-facing rooms to suffer from construction noise until 2020. Hikers with sore legs can try the 90-minute ‘trekkers’ recovery massage’ (Rs 3850) at the attached Shambhala Spa.
Hotel Tibet features boutique-style rooms in Kathmandu. Located behind Narayanhiti Palace Museum, the hotel has its own restaurant and a 24-hour front desk. There is a meditation room where guests can relax. Decorated in soothing colours, rooms feature a mix of modern Tibetan and classic decor. Each air-conditioned room has a TV, seating area, minibar and private bathroom with hot shower and hairdryer. Hotel Tibet is 1 km from Thamel and 4 km from Swayambhunath Temple. Pashupatinath Temple and Tribhuvan International Airport are both 7 km away. Guests have access to free Wi-Fi in the hotel’s common areas. Luggage storage facilities, a travel desk and currency exchange services are available. Asian and Western cuisine is served at the hotel’s Himalayan Restaurant.
