Getting There & Away
Buses run to Besi Sahar (Rs 400, six hours) between 6.30am and 10am from Kathmandu's Gongabu bus station, with tourist buses (Rs 450) at 7am, 8am and 10am. Buses also run to Bhulbule (Rs 475) at 6.45am and 8.30am.
From Pokhara (Rs 450, five hours), there is a tourist bus leaving at 6.30am from the tourist bus park, or you can take any bus or microbus bound for Kathmandu and change at Dumre.
From Besi Sahar, cramped 4WDs run to Chame (Rs 1500) and on to Manang (Rs 3000), when the dirt road isn’t blocked by monsoon landslides. Drivers seem to particularly enjoy overcharging foreigners on this route so negotiate your fare. Transport options are bound to change as road conditions improve, so you'll have to check the situation on arrival.
