Information from Viator
Around 26 km northwest of Pokhara lies Dhampus village (1650m). It is a small village on the hilltop. Everyone who treks to Annapurna Base Camp must go via Dhampus. It is Dhampus from where you can get the best view of Annapurna Region without going to Annapurna. Take the oldest trail to Dhampus which is rarely used by the locals since the motorway was built. This trail will lead through the forests and several villages. As you walk through the forest you can enjoy the peaceful environment and can occasionally spot various species of birds. The sound of chirping birds and crickets blend to create a soothing music of nature. As you approach Dhampus Village, the view of Annapurna unfolds gradually and by the time you reach Dhampus we will eventually be able to see Mount Fishtail (Machhapuchhre) and Dhaulagiri to Lamjung. Post lunch, you take a similar trail to Astham.
You will be picked up from your hotel at around 08:00 am in a private transportation. After a drive of around 30 minutes, you will be dropped at Phedi – which is the start point for this day hiking. It will anywhere between 90 minutes to 02 hours hike from Phedi to Dhampus Village. After arriving at Dhampus Village, you will have 02 hours to roam around the village, take rest and have lunch. Post lunch, we will head to another beautiful village called Astham, which will take around 02 hours. At Astham Village, you will have an hour to explore and take rest before we hike down to Hemja – the end point of this day hiking. From Hemja, our private transportation will drop you back to your hotel. The total duration may vary depending on person to person.
