This 3-hour tour lets you explore a beautiful stretch of land known as Deadvlei and Sossusvlei by all-terrain vehicle. Visitors to Namib-Naukluft Park will appreciate the picturesque contrasts in the landscape, where pitch-black trees, bleached-white clay pans, rust-red dunes, and deep-blue sky make for incredible images.
Departing from Sossusvlei Lodge in the morning, you'll head straight to Dead Vlei to explore the large expanse of bleached cracked clay marked by skeletal trees. Travel in an all-terrain URI game-viewing vehicle, custom-built in Namibia. Your specially trained guide will share knowledge of the area, animals, plant life, and more. Regular stops are made during the spectacular 37-mile (60-km) drive through the dune corridor down to the vlei; the route is marked with wooden poles. The first part of the journey takes you over a clay pan. Note the changing shades of the dunes as the sun moves higher in the sky, and soak up the solitude while surrounded by an impressive scene of desert beauty.Dead Vlei is at least a .6-mile (1-km) walk from the parking lot, so be sure to take drinking water with you. After exploring the area, you will then walk back to the vehicle. Your 3-hour tour includes light refreshments and return transport to the lodge.
