Day tour to Bago by train. Visit Buddhist monastery discover the cultural heritage of old Mon Kingdom. Take a trishaw bicycle taxi ride through local neighborhoods. Return to Yangon by car and stop at WWII cemetery.
Morning transfer to Yangon railway station for a train ride to Bago. During its heyday Bago (Pegu) was one the great kingdoms in Southeast Asia ruled by lineage of Mon kings and queen. Enjoy the sights and sounds and mingle with locals during the 2 hour rail journey. The trains are old and facilities basic, but have character and give an insight to local life and standards in Myanmar.In Bago take a walk through the Bago market and visit a Buddhist monastery where monks line up for their last meal of the day. At a snake pagoda we observe how devotees donate money to giant python believed to be reincarnated spiritual leader. We take a ride with bicycle taxi “trishaw” exploring local neighborhoods. On the way back to Yangon we visit a pottery village to observe local production methods, at buffalo shrine learn more of local beliefs and traditions, and gain an insight to Myanmar traditional medicine and its exotic ingredients such as scorpions at one of the stalls where we make a stop. During the 2 hour or 50 miles (80 km) drive to Yangon we stop at a spirit tree where new and old cars get blessings, and visit Thauktkyan WWII allied troops war cemetery. Arrival to Yangon will be late afternoon and you will be dropped off to your hotel.
