Entry & Exit Formalities

Myanmar's central government has declared the majority of destinations in Chin State 'open', meaning that permits are no longer necessary to visit them. But some places, such as Paletwa and the area close to the border with Rakhine State, do still require advance permission, or are closed to foreigners. If you're on the Myanmar–India border, local immigration officials will likely join you for a cup of tea to inquire about what you're up to. Saying you're just visiting as a tourist normally satisfies them.
