Entry & Exit Formalities
Myanmar's central government has declared several destinations in Chin State – including Mindat, Mt Victoria, Tiddim and the state capital, Hakha – 'open', meaning that permits are no longer necessary to visit them. But some places, like Paletwa and the area close to the border with Rakhine State, do still require advance permission or are closed to foreigners. If you're up on the Myanmar–India border, the local immigration officials will likely join you for a cup of tea to inquire what you're up to. Saying you're just visiting as a tourist normally satisfies them.
