Top Tips

  • Wear sandals, as they're much easier to take off at the temples.
  • Bring a hat to wear when cycling between temple groups, but remember to remove it when entering temple compounds.
  • Women should cover up to elbows and knees, as these are active religious temples and Bagan is a conservative region.
  • Drink plenty of water: Bagan is one of the hottest places in the country and dehydration occurs easily.
  • If you're on a fleeting visit, take lunch around Old Bagan to maximise time at the temples.
  • If you hire an e-bike, be careful on the dusty, sandy paths. It's easy to lose control and take a spill.
