Welcome to Chimoio

Founded by the Portuguese in the late 19th century and sited in the economically fertile ‘Beira corridor’, the settlement – known as Vila Pery until 1975 – acted as an important agricultural centre and transport nexus. Despite being a regular flashpoint during the civil war, the city has since morphed into a far friendlier, laid-back place that lacks the urban bite of nearby Beira.
