Drinking and nightlife in Rif Mountains

  • Nightlife in Chefchaouen

    Oum Rabie

Smoky Oum Rabie manages to be the best bar in town, though the competition isn't exactly fierce (it's the only one not in a hotel). The two-floor establishment has character, with Moroccan-style furniture and neon lights overlooking a central bar area and TV. Flag Speciale beers are Dh20 and tapas are free.

  • Nightlife in Al Hoceima

    Mercure Quemado Resort

The bar of the Mercure hotel is open to nonguests. It's not the cheapest place to have a drink in Al Hoceima, but it may be the nicest, with a deck overlooking the beach.

  • Nightlife in Tetouan

    Za3Za3

This is where locals say za3za3 ( zeh-zeh; meaning 'craziness') began. The owner decided to blend fruit with avocado and top it with nuts, dried fruit, hunks of fresh fruit and honey. Flan is often involved. Za3za3 was a hit and has since been copied in many variations all over Tetouan. The original za3za3 joint is a 10-minute walk from Bab Al Okla, but you'll need to walk much longer if you plan to burn off those calories.

  • Nightlife in Tetouan

    Casa de España

It looks like a living room, with a leather couch facing a fireplace, TV and football trophies, but in fact Casa de España is one of Tetouan's few bars. Plates of tapas come with every drink; if you're hungry, there's a grill restaurant in the adjoining room. Smoking is permitted, but the tall ceilings combat the smoke.

  • Nightlife in Chefchaouen

    Hotel Parador

Hotel Parador's restaurant offers beer and wine with meals, which may be enjoyed poolside on the back terrace. But if you aren't hungry or are looking for something stronger, the hotel's tiny bar is well stocked. Drinks can be enjoyed at the bar or in the adjacent room on one of the hotel's comfortable couches.

  • Nightlife in Al Hoceima

    Club Nautique

Breathe in the fresh salty sea air with a Moroccan beer atop the Club Nautique fish restaurant. The bar here usually attracts quite a crowd, especially when football is on one of the televisions.

  • Nightlife in Chefchaouen

    Atlas Chaouen

If you're desperate for a beer or glass of wine, the bar inside Hotel Atlas Chaouen will do – there's even a great view of the Rif Mountains through its big windows. But it's a tough hike up to get here and the bar is smoky and altogether soulless.

  • Nightlife in Al Hoceima

    Suites Hotel Mohammed V

The bar is a bit dingy, but the terrace has excellent views over Plage Quemado.
