Getting There & Away
Uvs Nuur is infuriatingly tricky to reach, if only to snap a photograph of the shore. The shortest way (by 4WD) is to follow a sandy track northeast of Ulaangom for about an hour, which takes you to a recessed salt flat (What3words: crowded.evolutions.fanatical) where locals go to treat skin ailments. From there it's another 2½km hike east to the water's edge.
Alternatively, you can drive east out of Ulaangom along the main highway, then turn off north immediately after crossing the bridge (What3words: misplaced.gingers.scarcer). After about 40km of desert, the road closes to within 4km of the shoreline.
