Description via Hostelworld

The Octopus Garden is a large old house with a beautiful shady garden patio in the traditional village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. A family-run restaurant and the “Treetop Bar” with a sprung-wood dance floor form part of the building and also a gallery of Huichol art, spectacular visionary yarn paintings, beaded jewellery and weaving from the indigenous people in the nearby mountains. For over twenty years this was a screen-printing business and the building that now houses the Hostel was built for 3 large 8-armed presses, called “octopus’s” in Mexico. This and the fact that the family that created this place sailed from England, UK, explain the name which also refers to the famous Beatles song. Through the winter there is live music several nights a week at the bar, and dance and exercise workshops are available.Riviera Nayarit Marina and the bathing beaches are only 4 or 5 blocks away. The Hostal is part of a small complex built around a garden patio with restaurant, bar and Dance floor. It is situated in the traditional town centre, only five blocks from the town plaza, the beach and the Marina Riviera Nayarit. The Octopus´s Garden is well known in the town and has been under the same ownership for over 20 years. The town is small, but well provided with corner stores, taco stands and restaurants. It is located on the northern edge of Banderas Bay, a popular anchorage in the sailing season which is November through to April.

Set on the north shore of Banderas Bay there is a lively sailing community and boat trips are available from the Marina. There are popular spots for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing in the vicinity. Just to the north are the picturesque towns of Sayulita and San Pancho, and to the south is the city of Puerto Vallarta.

Three of the rooms are completely enclosed, and the others are built with privacy but also plenty of ventilation. The beds are simple wooden beds with traditional spring mattresses, and we provide sheets, pillows, towels and covers in case of cold weather. There are floor fans, bedside lights and plug in points in each room. The rooms share a kitchen and 4 showers, 2 toilets and a face-washing area. Lockers are provided for anyone wanting further security.
