Where you go to eat often is based on where you are staying: the hotel zone or the city center. Each place has a range of options, though meals are (not surprisingly) pricier in the hotel zone.
Eating options in Cancún Centro range from your standard taco joints to upscale seafood restaurants. You'll find many restaurants clustered around Parque de las Palapas and lining nearby Avenida Yaxchilán. Trendy new spots are popping up on or around Avenida Náder, between Avenidas Uxmal and Cobá. Mercados 23 and 28 serve up good market food, and for groceries, try 24/7 Soriana, close to the bus station, or Chedraui Supermarket.
‘Pay-per-view’ takes on a whole different meaning in the Zona Hotelera. Prices sometimes reflect the location of the restaurant and what’s outside the window more than the quality of food. That being said, there are a fair number of excellent seafood and gourmet restaurants along the strip too.
For budget eats in the Zona Hotelera, you can always hit the taco joints across from the nightclub zone at Km 9.5 and nearby Surfin' Burrito never closes.
