The museum is housed by a historical building from the 30´s which was one of the first hotels on the island. It offers in four permanent exhibit rooms a wide view to the local geography, ecosystems, history and culture. You can visit the museum to know about the origin, the development, and the customs of the inhabitants of the island. The main function of the museum is to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of the Cozumel population. It is a space in which the most varied creative manifestations are featured. It is also a living entity where the active participation of creators and cultural organizations through workshops, exhibitions, and various artistic and cultural activities is fundamental. The “Museo de la Isla” museum has multiple uses areas where painting, dance and theater workshops are given to children, young and adults. It also has an auditorium for cultural events as well as educational consultants who direct guided tours for groups of students.
