Begin the Macchabée Trail (10km one way, strenuous, four hours) at the Pétrin Visitor Centre. Hike along the plateau to the stunning Macchabée Viewpoint, then down to the Black River Gorges Visitor Centre. Keep an eye out for the Mauritius kestrel, echo parakeet and soaring tropic birds.
