From the first day a mat is drawn up to show the entrance into a sacred period. Every day, the devotees who wear an 'amar cap' (red bracelet of three sons representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Kali), tied at the wrist as a sign of their commitment, go to the temple to pray the deity The tenth day is the most spectacular moment, and often attracts thousands of spectators and participants dressed in fuchsia clothes, the color of Muruga. Several rituals are celebrated (prayers, offerings, purifying bath in the sea or the river, ....) Before the procession of the penitents some of whom may be implanted needles more or less long in the skin of the forehead, cheeks, tongue or body, wear gags in respect of a vow of silence, or milk jugs on their heads.
