From May to September, whale sharks cruise almost continually along the 10km-long Dhidhdhoo Beyru on the southwestern edge of the atoll, which extends from Ariadhoo Kandu north to the tip of Dhigurah island. Even out of season there are consistent whale shark sightings here, which increase during a full moon when the currents become faster.

Inevitably, this is a very busy area; dozens of resort and guesthouse boats cruise the channel with divers and snorkellers ready to jump in the water at the first sighting of a whale shark. Despite this, seeing one of these creatures is an incredible experience and shouldn't be missed.
