This excellent place is spread out along a gorgeous 1km-long white-sand beach on Hanimaadhoo's remote northern shore. It's perhaps the closest melding of guesthouse ethos with resort facilities in the country. This is a fantastic choice for visitors who'd like a very comfortable beach holiday but also want to stay on a local island and have contact with Maldivian culture.
The large and charmingly decorated rooms are arranged in stylish two-storey blocks of four facing the sea, meaning that nearly all have wonderful sea views from their patios or balconies. There's a big buffet, very attractive public areas and a dive centre to help you explore this pristine slice of the country's marine life.
As the hotel is located some distance from the population on Hanimaadhoo, there's no problem stripping down to speedos or a bikini on either the beach or by the gorgeous lap pool, which is lined with coral stones rescued from old buildings.
The Barefoot also lives up to its 'eco' name – it has an excellent program that includes the use of solar power, the purchase of local produce for the restaurant and the organisation of various community educational program. Just don't expect to be able to drink alcohol and you'll love it here.
Situated along the shores of Hanimaadhoo, The Barefoot Eco Hotel offers tranquil and comfortable accommodation with free WiFi access throughout the property. Boasting a private beach area, guests may enjoy activities such as diving, snorkelling and canoeing on site. Featuring a private balcony/terrace, air-conditioned rooms are furnished with a wardrobe, in-room safe, minibar, a desk and sofa seating area. Offering shower facility, the en suite bathroom also includes hairdryer, towels and free toiletries. Relax by the outdoor pool or enjoy a pampering massage at the spa. Guests may also utilise the fitness centre, or rent a bicycle to explore the area. The friendly 24-hour front desk staff can assist with luggage storage, laundry services and meeting/banqueting arrangements. Overlooking the ocean, The Barefoot Eco Hotel’s in-house restaurant serves a delectable spread of local and Western cuisine. After-meal drinks can be ordered at the bar, while room service options are available.
