This wonderful place was an early Maldivian resort, and since its lavish refit at the hands of COMO, Cocoa Island has consistently impressed with its style and service. Indeed, this is one of the very few resorts that manages to get everything so right with such little fuss: a combination of perfect beaches, beautiful rooms, excellent food and superb staff.
First of all, the small island has no rooms on it at all – they’re all built over water in a shape that mirrors that of the island itself. And what rooms they are – built in the shape of traditional Maldivian dhoni boats – all clean lines, white cotton and dark wood. Newer two-floor loft villas are clad in white timbers and are even more stunning. Other great touches include outdoor showers, direct sea access from the rooms, and gorgeous COMO Shambhala bathroom products.
On the island proper there is nothing superfluous. A large infinity pool, cracking beaches the entire way around, a gorgeous à la carte restaurant with a large range of dishes, a smart cocktail bar, a sumptuous spa, a gym, and the excellent and friendly dive centre. Everything is totally luxurious, but nothing is over the top. All in all, a great recommendation for unpretentious and low-key luxury that will keep even the most demanding guests happy.
Cocoa Island Maldives offers luxurious accommodation on the private shores of Kaafu Island in South Male Atoll. It provides indulgent spa treatments, 2 private diving reefs and an infinity pool. Inspired by the Dhoni (a local fishing boat), the elegant air-conditioned suites and villas boast beautiful views of the crystal ocean. Each is equipped with a flat-screen TV and feature large bathrooms with bathtubs. COMO Shambhala Retreat features Ayurvedic treatment programmes, a gym and yoga classes. For quiet afternoon indoors, there is a library and free Wi-Fi. Ufaa Restaurant offers all-day dining, with its healthy South Indian menu prepared using fresh seafood and organic vegetables. Barbecue buffets are available on selected days. Cocoa Island is about 31 km, or a 40-minute speedboat ride, from Male International Airport.
