Off to the Maldives in July for 10 days, can’t afford the resort type accommodation so am looking at spending maybe Au $2000 for a hotel. Would like an island that has a ‘bikini beach’ and also able to have a drink as I see you can’t at a lot of places.
Also close enough to Male to get a ferry/speedboat but not too close to hear planes all the time.
Also what are you paying for food/drink etc at cafes and restaurants, I’m assuming everything is in US dollars!
Any recommendations would be great!
I have understood it is possible to book ”fishing” cruises with locals Where u live on a boat and go around to different Islands etc snd stay on the boat etc.
Not looking for luxury but want to find very basic deals with locals and have a Fun fishing time!

So I kinda posted this in another forum - but I need a second look at this. Perhaps I'm just lost... I have emailed numerous companies (all based from UK)... and I'm getting recommendations for DIFFERENT Resort... I mean different ones - not a single one is duplicated... I'm like... The Maldives has always been known for expensive holidays spent at opulent, luxurious private-island resorts. However, a change to government regulations in 2009 opened the Maldives to independent, budget travel.
The numerous coral islands with their white-sand beaches, fringing house reefs and abundant marine life are the big draw-cards. This combined with very reasonable travel costs, bargain airfares from Asian low cost carriers (Air Asia from Malaysia & Thailand and Scoot from…
I am a bit confused about arranging my trip to Maafushi from Male. I am landing there at about 2 pm, but the immediately available speedboat service is at 6.40 pm which means waiting for a long time with my family. My hotel manager has advised me not to book this as according to him there will be agents waiting for travellers at the arrival with speedboat service with the same price as in booking (USD 25). Has anyone seen such travel agents? Is it safe to use one of them? Any input is…
Hello, I have a practical specific question for you Maldives experts ;)
So, I am trying to plan a "maldive on a budget" visit and I have booked a room in a Guesthouse in Huraa. I will be there at the beginning of February and I am supposed to fly out of Male on a Saturday morning at 10:35 am, so say be at the aiport by 8:00-ish.
I see that Huraa is fairly near Male, and I know that on Friday there is no public ferry.
I already wrote to the guesthouse, but I would like to ask for some unbiased…
Hi all! Looks like I get to spend 4 nights in Maldives. Flight from Colombo arrives at 8:30 pm. Is there a transfer option to Himmafushi at that hour or do I spend the night in Male and ferry/speedboat the next day?
