This 9-day small group adventure tour starts and finishes in Kota Kinabalu.Home to Orang-utans, carnivorous plants, gorgeous beaches and some of the world's oldest rainforest (at 130 million years old!) and top dive sites - Borneo is one of Asia's last wild frontiers! This is not just a holiday - it's an adventure! Borneo is an explosion of wildlife and nature, waiting to be explored.
Day 1 - Arrival Day in Kota Kinabalu Wander the waterfront area, check out the Central Market, watch the local fishermen or peruse the shops. If you’ve got the whole day to spare, you could visit the nearby islands on an island-hopping trip. Day 2 - Kota Kinabalu to Simpang Mengayau Bay When we arrive at Simpang Mengayau Bay we’ll have some time for lunch and a swim. Mid-afternoon we’ll head to the Kudat Turtle Conservation Society where we will learn about the work being done to save the sea turtle population. Day 3 - Simpang Mengayau Bay Join a half day snorkelling trip out to some nearby reefs, hire a surfboard (seasonal), go kayaking, take a mangrove river cruise or just relax on the beach. Day 4 - Simpang Mengayau Bay to Mount Kinabalu Explore Mt Kinabalu park. Hike the trails and get a guided tour of the Botanical Gardens. Day 5 - Mount Kinabalu to Sepilok Visit Sepilok, home of the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. At night we'll take a guided walk to see nocturnal wildlife (including flying squirrels!) at the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Day 6 - Sepilok to Kinabatangan River Jungle StayWe’ll board boat that will take us up the Kinabatangan River exploring waterways and wetlands teeming with wildlife to our Jungle Camp on Oxbow lake. Day 7 - Kinabatangan River Jungle StayAfter breakfast, we will jump back in the boat for another chance to see the wild life along the river. Each time you head out on the boat, you’re likely to experience something entirely different to the last time. Day 8 - Kinabatangan River to Turtle Island Visit Walai Turtle Conservation Park on Libaran Island. Enjoy the beach, go kayaking or take a stroll to the local village. In the early evening we’ll visit the hatchery and, if some eggs have hatched, we’ll take the baby turtles down to the ocean and release them into the sea! At night, keep a look out for mama turtles coming up the beach to lay their eggs. Day 9 - Turtle Island to Kota Kinabalu We’ll take the boat back to Sandakan town for a quick stop before we continue our journey to Kota Kinabalu.
