Bus

Taiping’s long-distance bus station, Kamunting Raya, is 7km north of the town centre – hop on bus 8 (RM1.20, 6am to 8.30pm) to get there to/from the local bus station, or take a taxi (RM10) to the town centre. Most southbound services pass Medan Simpang, 5km southwest of town (less than RM10 by taxi).

Many regional buses leave from the local bus station across the street from Masjid Daerah Taiping. Destinations include Kuala Kangsar (RM3.90, one hour), with departures at least hourly from 6am to 7.30pm, and Lumut (for Pulau Pangkor; RM10, three hours), with three daily departures. Taxis also hang around here.

Train

Taiping’s train station is 1km west of the town centre, on the Kuala Lumpur–Butterworth line.

There are several daily trains to Kuala Lumpur (RM47 to RM62, three to six hours) and Butterworth (RM21 to RM26, one to 1½ hours), stopping at Kuala Kangsar (RM14, 20 minutes) and Ipoh (RM20 to RM24, one hour) en route.
