There are few interesting facts about Upper Dolpo region that make it a paradise for the trekkers. The world renowned Peter Matthiessen’s book ‘The Snow Leopard’ was based on this place. Moreover, Nepal’s first English subtitled movie, ‘The Caravan’, also became very famous and was nominated for the Oscar Award in the best foreign language film category. Here lies a ‘Crystal Mountain’, near to Shey Gompa, the holiest mountain for Buddhists so each year hundreds of pilgrims visit to circulate the mountain. Lastly, the people of Dolpo rarely understand Nepali language and speak Tibetan.
