Getting There & Away
Nearly all visitors to Redang come on packages that include a boat transfer to the island. Independent travellers can get a ride on one of the resort-destined boats (adult/child RM55/30 one way), but in the high season (April to September) room-only deals may be scarce. The conservation fee (adult/child RM30/15) is usually added to the ferry price at the jetty.
Nurul Boat Services is one of several companies that has speedboats departing from Merang jetty. Daily boats depart from here for Redang (30 minutes, adult/child RM55/30) at 8am, 9.30am, 10.30am, 1pm and 3pm. Return boats leave Redang at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 4pm. There’s also an 11am departure from Redang to Lang Tengah (per person RM80). Taxis from Merang jetty can take you to Kuala Terrengganu town or airport (RM60, 40 to 45 minutes).
Sejahtera Ferry Services runs ferries from Shah Bandar Ferry Terminal, conveniently located in downtown Kuala Terengganu. These are slower and less frequent (1½ hours, per adult/child RM55/30), but avoid the taxi fare to/from Merang. Ferries run at 9am (for Pasir Panjang), and 10.30am and 3pm (for Kampung Jetty). Return journeys run at 7am and 1pm (from Kampung Jetty), and 11am (from Pasir Panjang). These can be booked at the jetty and may be arranged via your resort. It’s also possible to transfer between Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian with Aziz Boat Service.
