Just a couple of questions regarding the train from Kota Kinabalu to Beaufort. Please note that I am not referring to the Sutera Harbour railway, but the Sabah state railway. My first question is:

Is this train a new modern train or one of the old steam trains like the one which goes from Beuafort to Tenom?

Secondly, is there much to do in Beaufort for a few hours?

Many thanks

Boots?

Hi, All, will post this in the trekking section, too.
Looking for opinions......am travelling to Malaysia soon, and will be heading after there to Thailand and Vietnam. Plans are open and pretty flexible.
During the course of the trip, my partner and I might do some jungle trekking and possibly a trip to Kinabalu. Anyway, we are both hikers back home in Scotland and both have super comfortable walking boots that are well broken in, but heavy (& hot in the tropics). Do we take them with us, or hope…

My wife, (soon to be) 4 year old son and I together with some close friends and family to Kuala Lumpur in August for my son's birthday. This is the first time that he is travelling out of the country and is highly excited especially because it is his birthday and is really looking forward to the trip.

We would like to have a special dinner on his birthday where we could cut a birthday cake and the staff of the restaurant would atleast sing if not do something special. We would really appreciate…

I'm interested in doing 3 back to back treks in Mulu National Park in August. Headhunters trail, Pinnacles, and Gunung Mulu Summit trek. Can anyone recommend a tour operator than can provide me with a guide and porter for these treks. I estimate it will be about nine days. I understand that the park itself doesn't do the Headhunters trail.

Also, if anyone who ahs done these treks has any advice, I'd love to hear it. I hear that Gunung Mulu Summit is really tough. I'm a 46 year old of average…

We are a Canadian family and flying into KL. Will spend some about 10 days in Malaysia then fly out to Thailand. Afterwards, we'll head back in KL to fly home and will probably come over using a Thai/Malaysia border.

From what I' read, I don't need a visa if my trip is 30 days or less. So the question is is there a limitation to the number of times you can come back into Malaysia? I'm still planning my trip about it'll be about 10 days in Malaysia then 18 days in Thailand, then come back…

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it would be possible to make it to the airport for a 12.40 flight (so arriving around 11-11.30am) from Bako National Park.

I read that the first boats don't depart until 10am... is that correct? Also could we taxi it straight from Bako Village to the airport and any idea what that cost might be?

Thanks in advance.

Please don't laugh! We will be travelling very light but......

How well equipped are boats to islands / river tours in terms of life jackets for kids these days?
Years ago we brought our own for a 4 month baby and toddler.
Now with older kids will we likely be ok and provided with something suitable? Age 10+.

Thanks!

Hi All, we are planning to spend 2-3 weeks in Malaysia with our kids (9 and 11 years) in July /August and wonder what the best destinations and activities with children that age in Malaysia are. We would land in Kuala Lumpur but would probably leave the city soon. Our wishes range from experience nature to beach holiday. I guess Taman Negara would be a favourit spot and maybe Tioman or Perhentian or Kapas Island for beach holidays. Is there anybody who could give us advice on good places to…

Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me if the old train still runs from Kota Kinabalu to Tenom. If so, how long is the journey and if there are any train changes along the way. If I have to change trains en route, how long is the waiting time?

Many thanks.

Hi fellow travellers!
Am in the middle of planning of a winter escapade to Malaysia (December/January 2019), with my wife and 3 children. The little ones are quite young, 4, 3 and the last one should be like 4/5 months old (expected in September). We have been travelling quite extensively around the world as singles and as a couple and managed to squeeze in a few trips with the 2 extras. This time we are just looking to escape the winter and hit two locations in Malaysia. Any place you guys and…
