Melaka International Airport is 12km north of Melaka. Malindo Air (www.malindoair.com) offers daily flights from here to and from Penang and Pekanbaru (Indonesia).
High-speed ferries connect Melaka City with Dumai in Sumatra daily at 10am (one-way/return RM110/170, child tickets half price, two hours).
Melaka Sentral has plenty of long-distance bus connections to other major peninsular Malaysian cities including the federal capital Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh and Johor Bahru. There are also 11 daily buses to Singapore (RM24 to RM27, 4½ hours).
Many buses also pass through Alor Gajah on their routes between Melaka City and Kuala Lumpur. Buses (RM6) also run to nearby Muar in Johor.
Long-distance taxis connect with Melaka Sentral for destinations around the peninsula. Indicative fares are RM272 for Johor Bahru, RM300 for Mersing and RM184 for Kuala Lumpur.
Pulau Sebang/Tampin Train Station is 39km north of Melaka City. There are regular KTM Komuter (www.ktmb.com.my) services from here to Seremban from where you can connect with services through to Kuala Lumpur (RM13.70) and Ipoh (RM17). There are also services to Johor Bahru (RM25, six hours, two daily) and Butterworth (from RM42, seven hours, two daily).
Taxis from Melaka to Pulau Sebang/Tampin station cost around RM80. Alternatively, there's a half-hourly bus from Melaka Sentral (RM5, 1½ hours).
