Getting There & Away
Buses connect Marang with Kuala Terengganu (RM2.50, 30 minutes). The first bus leaves at 6.45am and subsequent departures are every hour between 8am and 5pm. A taxi from Kuala Terengganu to Marang Jetty costs RM30 one way. Usually there are taxis waiting for boats arriving from Pulau Kapas for the return journey to Kuala Terengganu. To be certain there is a taxi for when you arrive at the jetty, you can arrange for a Kuala Terengganu-based taxi to meet you at the Marang jetty. Alternatively, get your accommodation on the island to book one for you before you leave.
It is sometimes possible to flag down buses travelling to Kuala Terengganu (RM4) and Dungun/Rantau Abang (RM7/5), but often these services are express buses and will not always stop in Marang. The main bus stop is near the traffic roundabout on the main road (Route 3, the East Coast Highway), in front of the Sultanah Nur Zahirah mosque.
Speedboats (adult/child RM40/20 return) depart from Marang’s main jetty at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm, with returns half an hour later from Kapas. Suria Link Boat Service will continue to Pulau Gemia if requested.
For travel further afield, such as to Kuala Lumpur or Cherating, the most straightforward option is to return to Kuala Terengganu and catch an express bus from there.
