Exploring FRIM's forest trails is more rewarding in the company of a nature guide. Knowledgeable guides lead group tours of the main trails – Salleh, Keruing and Engkabang – for groups. Trekkers undaunted by insects should book a night walk (per group RM250) for insights into the forest's nocturnal wildlife. Book at least a week ahead by phone or email.
The Salleh trail is a good place to witness the phenomenon of 'crown shyness' in kapur trees. Some trees don't touch the leaves of a tree of the same species, leaving a modest distance rather than enmeshing their branches. The result is a photogenic web of channels in the forest canopy above.
