Hiking and cycling are the country's most popular activities, as well as Moselle Valley wine tasting.

Cycling

Luxembourg is criss-crossed by 23 national bicycle paths (pistes cyclables; www.pistescyclables.lu), each with its own number (PC1, PC2 and so on). Some cross hilly country and require considerable fitness, others are more easy-going. Altogether the country has 600km of cycling paths, with another 300km due for completion by 2020.

Bikes can be hired in most major tourist centres, helmets are not compulsory but are strongly recommended. You can bring your bicycle on a Luxembourg train, space permitting, for free.

Locally available guidebook Luxembourg 71, published by Éditions Guy Binsfield (www.editionsguybinsfield.lu), describes 40 cycle routes and 31 hiking trails with topographical maps and track descriptions.
