When to Go

  • Lithuania is at its best in high summer (June to August), when days are long, nights are short and the Baltic Sea is swimmable. Festival season hits high gear: one not to miss is Klaipėda’s three-day Sea Festival.
  • Spring (April and May) is cool and arrives late but is good for canoeing, as the thawing snow feeds the rivers.
  • Autumn (September to November) has many sunny days, turning leaves add a splash of colour, though nights are chilly. Culture reaches a crescendo with classical music festivals and Vilnius' annual Mama Jazz festival.
  • Vilnius' Christmas markets, snow-laden views and modest ski fields are the prime draws during winter (December to February), when the mercury drops to around -5°C by day.
