Lithuania is at its best in high summer (June to August), when days are long, nights are short and the Baltic Sea is swimmable. Festival season hits high gear: one not to miss is Klaipėda’s three-day Sea Festival.
Spring (April and May) is cool and arrives late but is good for canoeing, as the thawing snow feeds the rivers.
Autumn (September to November) has many sunny days, turning leaves add a splash of colour, though nights are chilly. Culture reaches a crescendo with classical music festivals and Vilnius' annual Mama Jazz festival.
Vilnius' Christmas markets, snow-laden views and modest ski fields are the prime draws during winter (December to February), when the mercury drops to around -5°C by day.
