This 4 day tour covers most of the main highlights of Lesotho. Some of which include: cave dwellings, historical sites, craft centre, dinosaur footprints, Basotho culture experience, Maletsunyane Falls, mountain passes and remote villages. ItineraryDay 1: Underberg to OxbowStop At: Sanipass Border control (Lesotho)We depart from Underberg at 8am and tackle the 4x4 drive up the legendary Sani Pass. After a drinks break at the “Highest Pub in Africa” we make our way up Black Mountain Pass and down the beautiful Sehonghong river valley and on to the remote village of Makhupung. Here we visit the resident traditional healer, observe a unique song & dance routine and a secret ceremonial dance. Interact and picnic lunch with the villagers. A true, once in a lifetime, cultural experience.We then climb to the “Roof of Africa” past the Letsing Diamond Mine (world’s highest diamond mine), over the highest pass in Lesotho (Tlaeeng Pass, 3279m)(Africa’s highest motorable pass) and on to Oxbow Lodge. Overnight.Duration: 12 hoursMeals included: • DinnerAccommodation included: Overnight at Oxbow LodgeDay 2: Oxbow to Thaba BosiuStop At: Thaba-Bosiu National Monument, Maseru, Maseru DistrictThis morning we leave the Maluti Mountains as we drive down the scenic Moteng Pass and into the Lesotho lowlands. We visit the Liphofung Cave which has been used by people since prehistoric times and includes San rock art on the walls. Learn all about this special site.We then take a slow drive past numerous Basotho villages, through the town of Butha Buthe to a site that contains 3 species of dinosaur’s footprints, Massospondylus, Heterodontosaurus and Lesothosaurus ("lizard from Lesotho").After a visit to the Leribe Craft Centre we make our way to the Ha Kome Cave Dwellings. This area was once home to cannibals and past generations of Basotho fled to the caves to hide from them. (lunch – own cost). Next stop is Thaba Bosiu where the Basotho nation was built. Moshoeshoe and his people took occupation here and was never conquered by his invaders. Here you will have time to explore the daily life of this bustling, remote trading village. An optional Town Tour & Blanket Presentation are highlights and if you feel up to it a Donkey Pub Crawl is also an option. Overnight at Semongkong lodge.Duration: 12 hoursNo meals included on this day.No accommodation included on this day.Day 4: Semonkong to UnderbergStop At: Major Adventures - Sani Pass Day TripsIn the morning we visit the amazing Maletsunyane Falls, “Place of Smoke”. These falls create “smoke” because it is one of the highest single-drop waterfalls in Southern Africa, with a flow of water falling 187 m. Before leaving the Kingdom of Lesotho we take one more scenic drive through the Lesotho Highlands to Qacha’s Nek border post. We pass through Matatiele before making our way back along the front of the Southern Drakensberg Mountains to Underberg.Duration: 8 hoursMeals included: • Breakfast: Breakfast and dinnerNo accommodation included on this day.
