Mina Alzour and Al Khiran have some of the most tempting waters in Kuwait, with watersports fans and clubs making the pilgrimage here to dabble in their favourite activities. The huge, quiet stretches of open sandy beaches in the Mina Alzour area are ideal for a family day out, though some sections are cleaner than others.
Further south is the Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City in Khiran. This Manhattan-sized residential area (set to house 250,000 residents in the next 25 years) is built on reclaimed land, with canals spanning 200km. The whole area is pretty sleepy, save a Saudi Texaco compound, only open to guests of members. In 2020, there are plans to open the fourth-largest oil refinery in the country nearby; construction and day-to-day operations may have an impact on the beaches and surrounding waterways.
