Terms & Conditions: Lonely Planet Kids #FamilyTravelHour giveaway competition

Lonely Planet Publications Limited (3970494) of 240 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 8NW, UK (“Lonely Planet”) is the promotor.

  1. You can enter during the Twitter chat #FamilyTravelHour, held at 8pm BST on Tuesday 21 May.
  2. Lonely Planet reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who has engaged in unlawful or improper conduct that is designed to jeopardise the fair conduct of the promotion or is generally damaging to the reputation of Lonely Planet, or has otherwise breached these conditions of entry (as determined in Lonely Planet’s sole discretion).
  3. The laws in some places don’t allow Lonely Planet to run this promotion, so the competition and these terms and conditions are void in those places. Also your child won’t be eligible to win this competition if anyone in their immediate family, including parents, guardians, siblings, grandparents or housemates, are directors, management, employees, officers or contractors of Lonely Planet, its promotional partners, or subsidiaries or parent or affiliated companies.
  4. Information about the prizes and how to enter form part of these conditions of entry.
  5. Any notifications and changes to these terms and conditions will be published on the competition entry page so you should check this page regularly.
  6. These terms are governed by the laws of England.
  7. You must comply with all applicable laws and regulations including the Twitter Rules. Anyone found to use multiple accounts to enter will be ineligible to win. Multiple entries in a single day will not be accepted.
  8. To enter you must reply via Twitter to Question 6 of the #FamilyTravelHour Twitter chat at 8pm on Tuesday 21 May.
  9. You do not have to buy anything to enter or to win.
  10. Three winners will receive one copy of the Lonely Planet Kids book, Wild Things. Total prize value is approximately £30. These prize values are accurate at the start of the competition.

How do I find out if I have won?

Rather than consulting tea leaves, the winner will be selected by a panel of 1 independent judge, who will review all eligible entries and decide the three best entries.

The task of selecting the winner will happen in a small, dark room at 240 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 8NW, UK on Wednesday 22nd May 2019. No correspondence will be entered into, even if you think that sucks.

We’ll give the winner(s) the good news via your Twitter handle on Wednesday 22nd May. If you’re riddled with curiosity, send an email to lonelyplanet.kids@lonelyplanet.com (including the name of the promotion) within 3 months of the Closing Date, and we’ll respond and tell you who won.

Lonely Planet will do its best to find the prize winner(s). But if we can’t, or if the prize hasn’t been accepted by 5th July 2019, the next best entry will be declared winner. Where there is a compelling technical or administrative reason out of Lonely Planet’s control, the winner(s) will be selected from all eligible entries received at that time.

You can’t exchange the prize for cash, or ask us to give it to someone else (not that you’d want to!). We will use reasonable efforts to award the prize as described but if due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to do that, we’ll substitute it for another prize of comparable value.

What happens to my entry?

In the event that you are a winner or runner-up, unless you’d like to opt-out of this licence by emailing us at lonelyplanet.kids@lonelyplanet.com, you grant Lonely Planet the following copyright licence:

  • You give Lonely Planet a worldwide, licence to reproduce, publish, adapt, communicate and broadcast all or part of the entry on lonelyplanet.com and in relation to marketing the #FamilyTravelHour giveaway competition.
  • Generally we will, to the extent practicable, attribute you as the author.

Lonely Planet will only use the personal information contained in your  entry to conduct the promotion and award the prize (but if you’ve told Lonely Planet that you want to receive stuff from us and/or our promotional partners, we’ll use your personal information for that too). We will keep your personal information in accordance with Lonely Planet’s privacy policy at http://www.lonelyplanet.com/legal/privacy-policy.
