Young travel writer eight-year-old Hina Hussain tells us all about her visit to the Lake District in the north of England.

I was excited about our family holiday to Lake District. Last year we went to Egypt so I wasn’t sure if a UK holiday would be fun. It took my dad two and a half hours to drive there.

On the way, we stopped off at an owl sanctuary. These are the rescued owls. It was fun because the man trained these owls to fly onto people’s heads. He put some food on my sister’s head and a huge owl sat on her head. I can’t believe she agreed to it!

Our hotel, Storrs Hall, was huge and we also had private path going to Lake Windermere. Beautiful views. I took a lot of selfies! We were told the Swallows and Amazons movie was filmed here. So cool.

Next day we went to the World of Beatrix Potter as my little sister is obsessed with Peter Rabbit. After lunch and ice cream, Dad hired a motor boat, so we all had a go at steering the boat. Awesome! The lake went on forever.

I learnt to skim stones in the lake. We did a lot of walking. This was my best UK holiday. I would go again.
