Singapore National Day falls on 9 August every year and in 2017 it marks the city state’s 52nd year of independence. And how do the Singaporeans like to celebrate? With a huge fireworks display, of course! Join in the fun and follow the simple step-by-step guide below to create your own exploding sparks.

You will need:

  • Newspaper
  • A4 white paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Fork
  • Acrylic paint in assorted colours
  • Glitter paint
  • Tissue paper
  • Cup of water

Step one

Gather your equipment!

Step two

Use your paintbrush to paint the back of the fork’s prongs one colour.

Step three

Turn the fork over and press onto the white paper. Repeat the above steps three or four times on the paper in a circle to make a star shape.

Step four

Wash the fork with water and wipe clean with kitchen paper, then paint another colour onto the back of the fork.

Step five

Press the second colour onto the paper in the gaps of the star shape you’ve created.

Step six

Once the paint has dried, use glitter paint of any colour to go over each exploding firework stroke.

Feel free to repeat the above steps with different colours for more sparkling fireworks!
