Do your kids love taking photographs when you are out exploring together? Then we want to see them!
This month we’re hosting our first ever Lonely Planet Kids photography competition. We’re asking young adventurers from all around the globe to send us the best photograph they’ve captured while out and about along with a short explanation as to why they’ve chosen it.
The prize is awesome: a waterproof Nikon digital camera from BorrowLenses and a huge bundle of Lonely Planet Kids books. We will also feature the prize-winning photographs in our upcoming travel photography exhibition in London in November 2016.
In case your kids need some inspiration, we’ve teamed up with 14-year-old photographer and Instagrammer Joe Goldberg. Joe will be taking over Lonely Planet’s Instagram from 9 – 11 September, so keep your eyes peeled for his amazing pictures. If you want to follow Joe’s lead, here are his top tips for getting the perfect shot:
1) Be patient and wait for the shot you are looking for
2) Catch sunrise and sunset (the best times to shoot)
3) Capture different angles and be creative with it
4) Get out and explore whenever you have the chance
Ready to get snapping? Follow the instructions below!
We want to see your little explorer’s photo skills! Email us their favourite photo (they need to have taken it themselves) along with an explanation (no more than 50 words) of why they like it so much.
How to Enter
Please ensure a parent/guardian emails the entry to email@example.com, including all of the following:
- Entrant’s name
- Entrant’s age
- One photo taken by the entrant of somewhere in the world
- Tell us in 50 words or less tell us what the entrant liked most about the photo
Entries must be received by 11.59pm (BST) on 14th October 2016. The competition is open to entrants aged under 16. With all entries, please include whether you are happy for us to share your child’s entry on Twitter. This won’t affect their entry in any way.
There will be two winning categories: best overall photograph submitted by entrants aged 8+ and best overall photograph submitted by entrants aged 8 and under. One overall winner will be picked from each category and will receive a waterproof Nikon digital camera (worth approximately £100) from BorrowLenses plus a bundle of Lonely Planet Kids Books (worth approximately £100). The winners will also be invited to attend Lonely Planet’s Photography Exhibition at the Box Park in Shoreditch, London, on 19 and 20 November where their prize-winning photographs will be displayed.
