Get ready to make a paper version of yourself! We’re creating a giant paper chain representing children from around the world – and want you to be one of them!
We’re sending blank templates out to schools around the world, from North America to East Africa to Southeast Asia, and asking children to draw themselves and send their templates back to us for assembly. The chain will then be displayed somewhere exciting in London.
Why are we doing this?
We’re celebrating the launch of our new book, This Is My World. It’s the biggest and most ambitious book Lonely Planet Kids has ever made, so we decided it required something special.
It’s a fascinating and fun collection of 84 children from incredibly diverse backgrounds who share their stories and photos of what’s unique about their lives – from school, local festivals and hobbies to their favourite sports and food. These personal portraits also reveal the many things children have in common, no matter where they’re from.
The idea behind the campaign is to bring children from around the world together, and celebrate their diversity and shared values.
Thousands of kids across the world are taking part. That’s thousands of paper people – ready to be joined together hand in hand.
Here’s how to join in:
- Ask your parent or teacher for a paper template you can get here
- Fill in the template with a drawing of yourself and colour it in
- Add your first name only, age and the country you live in to the same side (so we can see it)
- Get all your friends to do the same
Then ask an adult to send everyone’s template to Lonely Planet Kids HQ in London, England, where a team of cutting and glueing experts will put the paper chain together.
We can’t wait to receive your completed templates. There are a couple of ways you can send them to us. The first is by post, to:
240 Blackfriars Road
If you have over 20 templates to return, we can provide you with a stamped addressed envelope. Just let us know.
The second is to scan the templates in and email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Any questions you have can be sent to our email address: email@example.com.
Now get busy creating that paper version of yourself!
