Shela and Lamu towns have the best range of lodgings, from boutique hotels to guesthouses to hostels, with many lodgings in beautifully restored, centuries-old Swahili buildings. Rustic homestays can be arranged both on Paté Island and Kiwayu Island, and there are several high-end camps with bandas (thatched-roof huts) and resorts on Manda Island, Kiwayu Island and near Kipungani village on Lamu Island.
