Worth a Trip: Simbi Lake

The pint-sized lakeside village of Kendu Bay, 80km from Kisumu, has little to offer apart from the strange volcanic Simbi Lake a couple of kilometres from town. The circular lake, sunk into the earth like a bomb crater, has a footpath around it and is an excellent birdwatching spot. The town itself, which is a charming place that feels exactly as you imagine remote Africa would feel, sees very few tourists and the reception is staggeringly warm.
