Kikuyu Cultural Shows

Once famed for their elaborate dress of white body paint, impressive ostrich-feather headdresses and animal-skin tunics, most Kikuyu now forego traditional attire for Western clothes. Sadly your only real opportunity of meeting a tribesperson in full tribal regalia is at a hotel cultural performance or someone posing for photographs at Thomson’s Falls.

While there is something undeniably contrived about meeting locals this way, cultural performances are one of the few ways that old customs can be a source of new pride. Recommended shows include those at Nyeri’s Outspan Hotel (on request) and Bantu Mountain Lodge in Naro Moru.
