Getting There & Away
Aqaba is well served by public transport from Amman and even has an international airport. The city is a gateway to Egypt, by boat to Nuweiba and Sharm El Sheikh. Aqaba also accesses Israel and the Palestinian Territories through the blissfully straightforward Wadi Araba border crossing. There are only limited onward transport options from Eilat, many of which involve transiting through Jerusalem. Given the volatility of regional politics, always check the current security situation before planning any international crossings.
Wadi Rum is not as easy to get to without your own transport or without taking a tour from Aqaba or Petra. With a car it’s possible to link this region with the Eastern Desert via Hwy 5.
