Welcome to Burqu
Burqu is deep in Jordan's desert east; if you travel any further you'll end up in Iraq, which we don't recommend. It's the perfect place for a desert adventure, which is why the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) has been fighting to establish Burqu as a protected reserve. The Burqu Ecolodge is due to open in 2018 to serve as a base for local tourism as part of the development of the Jordan Eastern Badia Trail – check with Wild Jordan (www.wildjordan.com) for more information. Tours to the castle and lake, along with birdwatching and visits with local Bedouin are all planned.
South of Burqu are the mysterious remains of Bronze Age settlements of Khirbet Abu Hussain in the Harra Desert, known as the black desert.
