On this exciting tour see the city of Petra, capital of the Nabataea Arabs. Also see Little Petra. These are undoubtedly Jordan's most valuable treasure and greatest attractions. Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of UNESCO-listed Petra including the horse ride ( If Option Selected )
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Amman around 07.00am. You will be transferred to the rose red city of Petra, the biggest attraction of Jordan 240km south of the capital, Amman. Petra was first established around the 6th century B.C. by the Nabataean Arabs, a nomadic tribe that settled in the area and laid the foundations of a commercial empire that extended into Syria. Upon arrival you will begin the trip on horseback to the canyon to the so called Siq, and then by foot to the most beautiful monument: the Treasury. Among other monuments you will see are the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs and Pharaoh’s Castle. Petra was also chosen to be one of the New 7 Wonders of the world. After the visiting Petra, your driver will take you to visit Siq al Barid (“Little Petra”), the northern customs outpost for the Nabatean capital. A small portion of Nabatean fresco remains in one of the many carved and decorated cave facades inside this narrow canyon. A walk of 1 km brings you to the site of Baidha, a pre-pottery Neolithic site which is one of the earliest known agricultural settlements. Continue cross-country through the Baidha wilderness area, past small planted fields and orchards, to enter the colorful canyon known as Wadi Meruan. The trip through Wadi Meruan involves several scrambles up sandstone escarpments, and at one point the path runs along a narrow ledge above a 400-meter drop (difficult for those bothered by vertigo). After the visit is done back to Amman city hotel or dead sea hotel via the dessert highway after enjoying a day trip to Petra and little Petra in Jordan.
