Lively Abraham Hostel has earned its popularity. Its friendly crew easily covers traveller essentials – 24-hour reception, laundry (12NIS), shared kitchen – and ups the ante with a sweet bar and lounge, nightly events and cultural tours. Choose from men's, women's or mixed dorms, or basic but clean en-suite rooms. Mingle with the international crowd and sigh at the rooftop views: you've arrived.

If you're here on Shabbat, the hostel holds a dinner for up to 40 people (50NIS). You should also take advantage of the language exchange (Monday), enjoy happy hour (6pm to 8pm) at the bar, and sign up for an event or tour at the a travel desk in the lobby. These include Masada and Ein Gedi (280NIS to 316NIS), Hebron (290NIS), Nablus and Jenin (360NIS), and Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jericho (375NIS). Also, a Thursday afternoon tour of ultra-Orthodox neighbourhoods, 6pm yoga Monday to Wednesday and a hummus-making workshop at 7.30pm Sunday and Thursday.
