Nihonbashi Tamai

Japanese in Marunouchi & Nihombashi

Anago (seafaring eel) has long been considered a super-food, rich in vitamins A and E (and fortunately, not endangered like its freshwater cousin unagi). Here it's served in lacquerware boxes (a style known as hakomeshi) and prepared either grilled or boiled – you can sample both cooking styles by asking for half and half.

Nihonbashi Tamai is a small restaurant with a wooden signboard over the door. You may have to queue (or call ahead in the evening).
